Lisa C. Allen, from Cumberland, ME, holds a BFA in Painting from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and an MFA in Printmaking (Lithography) from the same institution. As an undergraduate, she was Graphics Manager for Star Course, and earned membership to Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Mortar Board.
Her professional accolades include the Maine State Individual Artist Award, the Percent for Art Competition at the University of Southern Maine Library (where her works are permanently displayed on the 4th floor), and multiple grants from the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program in Roswell, NM, spanning both six-month and one-year durations. Additionally, she received an Individual Artist Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Among her solo exhibitions are shows at Greenhut Gallery in Portland, ME, where she displayed "Lisa Allen: Paintings on Paper," at the Gray Art Gallery of East Carolina State University in Greenville, NC with "Lisa Allen: Works on Paper," and at the Roswell Museum and Art Center presenting "Lisa Allen: Paintings." Other venues include the Frick Gallery in Belfast, Maine, the Portland Museum of Art in Portland, ME, and Artemisia Gallery in Chicago, IL featuring "Lisa Allen: Paintings."
Her group exhibitions cover a wide range, including "The Portland Show" at Greenhut Gallery, "Maine State Fellows" at Maine Coast Artists, and the Art in Embassies Program exhibited at the US Embassy in Chile. Additional notable group exhibitions consist of "What's Going on Now" at Frick Gallery, "On the Edge: Forty Years of Maine Painting" at Maine Coast Artists and the Portland Museum of Art, along with various traveling exhibitions like "New England Now, Contemporary Art From Six States" and participation in the Maine Drawing Biennial at the Portland Museum of Art. Notable mentions also include the "Maine Biennial Invitational" at Colby College Museum of Art, and the "Fall Invitational" at the Roswell Museum and Art Center.
In her teaching career, she served as a Teaching Instructor and the Department Head of Printmaking at MECA (then known as the Portland School of Art) from 1981 to 1988.
